Case study: Integrating Early Years Foundation Stage approaches to assessment in Years 1 and 2

This primary school began by reviewing and changing its assessment approaches in Key Stage 1, drawing on good practice in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The changes to assessment prompted changes to the curriculum, which Key Stage 1 and EYFS staff planned together, pooling their pedagogical expertise. Classroom organisation in Year 1/2 also changed, offering a gradual shift in the balance of child-initiated and adult-initiated activities from Reception to Year 2.
