Durham LA suffers from high levels of social disadvantage with just over 50% of the Super Output Areas (SOA) being within the lowest 30% according to the LA's Index of Deprivation Matrix. In 2007-08 analysis indicated that there were some schools where EYFSP results were consistently low and in some cases declining. It was decided to target these schools for specific intervention and support.
